My name is Gabi Pearlman, and I’m a proud mother of three wonderful children. I was born and raised in South Africa and have a background in psychology and emotional support. From birth I have suffered from Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) and spent much of my early life struggling with symptoms I didn’t fully understand. My brother was severely affected, and it wasn’t until later in life that we truly grasped the nature of the disease. All three of my children have been diagnosed with CMT1A. Every day, I face the challenges of this condition with determination, a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise, and a positive, “never say die” attitude—an approach I’ve worked to instill in my children as well. I’m passionate about raising awareness, supporting others affected by CMT, and holding onto the hope that one day I’ll see a cure—for my children, and for everyone living with CMT.
