Linda Scott Barber

Branch Leader Picture
Linda broke a bone in her right foot in 1999 when she was 46. It was misdiagnosed as a sprain, and she was sent to an orthopedist, and then to a neurologist who diagnosed CMT. Since then, her right foot, ankle and leg have been weaker than her left, and she is unable to walk long distances. Linda’s father, who was diagnosed with CMT in 2013 when he was 85, still walks using a walker. Her youngest adult child has also been diagnosed with mild CMT and is managing well so far. Linda was a high school mathematics teacher for over 30 years but is now happily retired. She has been married to Michael Barber since 2016, and they have a blended family of four adult children. They live in downtown Toronto and love going to the theater, concerts and restaurants. Linda maintains as much mobility as she can by doing the physiotherapy exercises prescribed for her, and by using walking poles when she is out and about. A positive attitude and lots of rest help her to cope with the challenges of CMT.
